Part One: Initial Consultation
Libby and Tony came to us with their pool equipment sitting out in the open, taking the full Central Texas sun.
They found Gill Construction after searching online for a contractor they could trust.
They came to our site, read our reviews, looked over our testimonials, and decided to get a quote.
Within a few days, we scheduled a home visit to see the space and hear what they wanted.
Some things they wanted to solve were...
Pool equipment out in the open
The pump and filter sat out in the open along the side of the house. Years of Central Texas sun and rain were taking their toll.
A covered patio too small to use
Their existing cover came up short of what they needed out back. There was not enough shaded space to actually enjoy the area.
A worn, dated exterior
The paint on the house had faded and aged over the years. It was ready for a refresh to match the new addition.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
This was a structural addition, so we started on paper. We drew up the plans, had them engineer stamped, and pulled the permit with the City of Temple.
The city asked for separate pre-pour, framing, and final inspections. We managed to schedule each one on time and then passed them all successfully in turn.
We framed the new roof so it tied into the existing roofline off the back right of the house. The three posts sit on piers we poured in fast-setting concrete to keep things moving.
Then came the decking, the dry-in, and shingles matched to the home, plus an insulated wall, the cornice and trim, reset stone at the posts, the electrical for the fan, and new gutters.
Part Three: The Time Schedule
Libby and Tony were never in a rush. They had wanted this done for a while, so we kept everything clear and transparent, including the schedule.
21st May
Libby and Tony had their on-site consultation to walk the space and talk options.
26th Jun
They signed the design agreement and our illustrators started the drawings.
16th Aug
With the plans set, they approved the proposal for the patio cover.
28th Aug to 3rd Oct
We framed and roofed the addition, poured the piers, passed every inspection, repainted the home, and finished up.

Covered Patio Extension In About 5 Weeks

We wired the ceiling to carry the Kensgrove II 72 in. matte black smart fan after Libby and Tony decided the space deserved more than a basic light. At 72 inches it moves plenty of air for a Central Texas summer, and with Hubspace controls and the included remote, they can run it from their seat by the pool.
A Roofline Matched To The Home
The goal was a cover that looks original to the house. We framed it to follow the existing roofline and topped it with shingles matched to the current roof. The new vent pipe was painted black so nothing stands out up top, and the finished addition reads as part of the original build.
A Fresh Exterior To Match
While our crew was on site, Libby and Tony had us repaint the whole house. We power washed, sealed, and applied a new body and trim color in Sherwin-Williams paint. The front doors went red and the garage door was matched to suit. The gutters came down beforehand and went back up once the color was done.
