Part One: Initial Consultation
Padma had wanted this remodel for years. What finally moved it up the list was her mother, who needed a bathroom that was safe and easy to get into.
She had called around ten companies, and the first several waved the job off as too small. We were glad to take it on.
We met her in Cedar Park, measured the space, and listened. Safety ran through everything she described.
By the end of the visit the target was clear. Build a bathroom that takes the worry out of bathing and still fits her home.
Some things they wanted to solve were...
Stepping over the tub had become a risk
Her mother was bathing in a standard tub, and climbing over the wall every day was the part that worried the family most.
She wanted to roll straight in
The goal was a shower with no curb and no door, so getting in stayed easy whether on foot or in a wheelchair.
The job kept getting turned down
Several contractors told her the project was too small for them before she found a crew willing to take the work seriously.
Part Two: The Design and Planning
This was an accessibility build, so we spent real time on paper before anyone swung a hammer.
Padma shaped the plan with our designer, Paula, moving from 2D layouts to a design board to 3D renderings. She chose a neutral palette to match the rest of her home.
The curbless entry was the whole point. We cut out the concrete at the shower and reset the pan flush with the floor, so there is nothing left to step over.
We framed the pony walls, set blocking for the grab bars, built a tiled niche, waterproofed with Schluter Kerdi, and finished in porcelain tile, matte black fixtures, and glass.
Part Three: The Time Schedule
Padma had a lot going on, including her mother’s care, so we set a pace that fit her life and checked in often.
Oct 2023
We walked the space together and talked through what safe really meant for her family.
Jan 2024
Design and development kicked off, and Paula began shaping the layout.
Sep 2024
Padma approved the build agreement and we locked in the production schedule.
23rd Sep to 24th Oct
We tore out the old tub and shower, built the curbless pan, tiled, set the glass, and finished out.
Here's a quick breakdown...
- Her mother's safety drove every decision on the project
- Other companies had passed on the job for being too small
- The new shower rolls in flat, with grab bars and a floor built for grip
- Neutral tile and matte black fixtures keep it in step with her home
- She kept the crew fed with eggplants and produce from her garden
- Her words when it was done: "We love it. It's just like you all promised."

A Curbless Walk-in Shower In About A Month
This project included:
- Design, renderings, and material selections with our in-house designer
- Plans and county permitting handled for her
- Old tub and shower torn out
- Concrete cut out for a flat, zero-barrier shower pan
- Pony walls framed with solid blocking for the grab bars
- Schluter Kerdi waterproofing throughout the shower
- Porcelain wall tile with a non-slip penny-round floor
- Tiled shower niche
- ADA grab bars anchored into framing
Porcelain Walls With A Penny-Round Floor
The walls are finished in a marble-look porcelain tile that handles daily moisture and keeps the calm, neutral feel Padma wanted. The shower floor is a penny-round mosaic, and the rounded stones with their tighter grout lines give it real grip underfoot. Easy to clean up top, safe to stand on below.
Schluter Kerdi Waterproofing
Behind every tile sits a full Schluter Kerdi system: the board, the bonded membrane, the shower pan kit, and a stainless drain. It seals water out of the framing and subfloor. On a curbless shower where the pan sits flush with the floor, that waterproofing is what protects the home for the long haul.
Brushed Nickel Shower Fixtures
The shower runs on a two-in-one setup, a square rain-style head up top paired with a matching handheld sprayer on a flexible hose. The handheld makes seated bathing and rinsing far easier, which was a priority for this build. The brushed nickel finish keeps a soft, clean look against the marble-look tile and ties in with the grab bars and faucets.
