Part One: Initial Consultation
Jerimiah and Shelli wanted to add real room to their Harker Heights home. They were after a new bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchenette, and storage, along with new hard flooring through the common areas.
Jerimiah knew Steven from church, so when the project moved up the list, they reached out to us.
We met them on Dingo Trail, measured the home, and listened to how their family wanted to live in the new space.
One thing came clear early in design. Going up was not practical here, so the target became a plan that builds outward and ties the new space cleanly into the existing house.
What they wanted the addition to offer...
A comfortable bedroom that fits the home
They wanted a real bedroom that felt like part of the house, so we finished it with soft tones, recessed lighting, and flooring that carries through from the existing rooms.
A bathroom built into the new space
The addition needed its own bath off the bedroom, so we tied it into the layout and finished it to flow naturally from the new space the family uses every day.
A retaining wall to hold the grade
The slope out back called for an engineered retaining wall, so we built it in poured concrete with drainage to hold the ground before the sitework was finished.
Part Two: The Design, Planning, Permitting
This was a ground-up addition with structural and grading work underneath it, so we put as much care into the planning as the build.
Our designer, Paula, shaped the plan with the homeowners, working from laser site measurements into 2D plans and 3D renderings. Early on we named the three things that would steer the job: the retaining wall and drainage, the roof tie-in, and the plumbing tie-in.
We pulled the permits through the City of Harker Heights for the addition, the wall, and the fence. Part of the wall rose to about 30.75 inches, past the city’s 24 inch line, so it was engineered and stamped in poured concrete as a U shape.
With the design and engineering set, we poured the new foundation, framed the addition, and tied the new roof into the existing roofline. We ran weep lines and gravel behind the wall, then finished the exterior brick so the addition matches the home.
Part Three: The Time Schedule
The homeowners lived in their home through the entire build, so we kept a steady pace, sent daily logs with photos, and walked the job with them along the way.
Mar 2024
We met Jerimiah and Shelli on site, measured the home, and talked through the goals for the addition.
Rest of 2024
Paula shaped the design, produced the plans and renderings, and we opened the permitting with the city.
Spring 2025
We finalized the retaining wall engineering, demoed for the new space, and poured the addition’s foundation
Apr to May 2025
We framed the addition, tied in the roof, ran the rough-ins, and passed the framing and insulation inspections.
Jun to Jul 2025
We built out the interior, the bathroom with its walk-in shower, the kitchenette, drywall and paint, flooring, the mini split, and the exterior brick.
Aug to Sep 2025
We built the engineered retaining wall and finished the sitework. After the footing was reinforced and re-inspected, the wall passed its final inspection on September 24th.
Oct 2025
We cleared the final building corrections, had the disturbed yard sodded, and passed the final inspection on October 21st.

A Home Addition Tied Into The Existing House
This project included:
- Design, 2D plans, and 3D renderings with our in-house designer
- Framing and a shingle roof tied into the existing roofline, with brick matched to the home
- An engineered, U-shaped concrete retaining wall with drainage
- A bedroom and living area with new hard flooring, plus a bathroom with a tiled shower and glass surround
- A kitchenette with cabinets, cooktop, vented microwave, marble picket backsplash, and quartz counters
- A mini split, a tankless water heater, new windows and doors, gutters, irrigation, and a new fence
Rerouted Plumbing And HVAC Lines
A water line sat right where the new garage entry door needed to go, so we isolated and rerouted it, then moved the HVAC evaporator so the new cabinets could open fully. Small fixes, but they’re what let the addition tie into the house cleanly.
Poured Concrete Footings And A Retaining Wall
The slope meant the addition had to sit behind a retaining wall, so we built it in poured concrete to engineered, stamped plans, a U shape running roughly 27, 23, and 5 feet. When the inspector flagged the footing, our crew added rebar to match the drawings and passed the re-inspection. Weep lines and gravel behind it keep water moving through instead of building against the wall.
Brick Finished To Match The House
The exterior is finished in brick carried to the home’s existing color, with corner detailing worked in so the facade stays symmetrical with the original house. Up top, the dimensional shingles are matched to the existing roof and the new roofline ties straight into it. Together the brick and roofing let the addition read as part of the home rather than something attached later.
